About

I’m a 50-something woman wondering what the heck I got myself into by agreeing to walk 70 miles in northern Spain with my 20-year-old daughter and her friend.

I’ve done some trails in my day — and some of them have been downright challenging (see below) — but nothing compares to the El Camino de Santiago (Way of St. James), which pilgrims have been trodding upon for a thousand years.

So stay tuned if you want to follow along on our adventure — we’ll be posting where wireless allows.

Happy trails!

Most of the time I spend my days in Lincoln, Neb., where I teach journalism at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. My other blog is michellehassler.wordpress.com

Don’t be deceived. Yes, this picture shows children happily following the the Hanakapi’ai Trail in Kauai, but in real life it’s a killer. I thought I would have to carry out on my back my dehydrated and near-delirious husband.
